Novel Drug Approvals for 2026
The FDA approved orforglipron (Foundayo) on April 1, 2026, a new peptide drug to help adults with obesity lose weight and keep it off. The approval also included insulin icodec-abae (Awiqli) for type 2 diabetes and several other peptide-based therapies for rare diseases.
Analysis
Lilly's Foundayo is the first oral GLP-1 pill approved for obesity. Patients can now skip the weekly shot. Novo's weekly insulin Awiqli also got the green light.
